Jackson Laboratory – Farmington, CT
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is building a new nonprofit research institute in Connecticut that will transform medicine by improving care, lowering costs, and increasing life span and health span.
The JAX Genomic Medicine Building is being built on a 17-acre site on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Conn. Construction has begun, and the 183,500-square-foot facility will open in the fall of 2014. Within 10 years, it will house 300 biomedical researchers, technicians and support staff in state-of-the-art computing facilities and laboratories.
Scientific and administrative operations are under way in leased space until the permanent facility is ready for occupancy.
The JAX Genomic Medicine facility represents an expansion, not a relocation, of The Jackson Laboratory. JAX will continue to grow its basic research campus in Bar Harbor, Maine, while the new facility in Connecticut focuses on medical applications of genomics with academic and clinical research partners from Connecticut and around the world.
